Tug "Lyttelton" was built by Fergusson Bros. of Glasgow and sailed to New Zealand under her own steam,
being delivered to her owners, The Lyttelton Harbour Board, at Lyttelton on the 11th of September 1907.
She was retired from service in 1970 and in absence of a buyer, the "Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society
was formed and took over the preservation of the vessel at the end of 1972. A year of hard work was
needed to recommission the ship and many fund raising projects to buy extra equipment needed to obtain
a Marine Department Passenger Survey Certificate. The Society is a voluntary organisation and new
members are always welcome.
Public Sailings from September to June every Sunday afternoon to Lyttelton Heads.
Depart No2 wharf at 2.30pm-Return 4.00pm.
